Kirsty van der Westhuizen

Howzit, I hail from South Africa and have been teaching music for the past 15 years. I play the piano and clarinet and would like to learn to play a traditional Thai instrument whilst living in Thailand. I have played in orchestras and directed children’s orchestras, one of the most rewarding jobs on the planet. Teaching in an international school in Botswana for the past 3 years has made me want to experience teaching around the globe in international settings. As a true collaborator, I aim to help children learn to express themselves through music. Music is a universal language and one of the best tools a child can possess to transcend culture, religion and race. I am incredibly fortunate to find myself in Asia for the first time and particularly teaching in Thailand. Teaching Thai children is a blessing, as they are keen to participate and engage in their learning. I look forward to developing the music department at Silver Fern through the teaching and learning of such enthusiastic students. Thailand has so much to offer and my vision is to share as much knowledge and understanding in return to the students at Silver Fern.
